Claims
- 1. A method of repairing a computer system element at a field location, including the steps of:
- detecting a hardware error in a VLSI array store during power-on by testing said VLSI array with an power-test,
- storing failing addresses for a wordline failure indicating said hardware error in an ABIST control mechanism provided with said computer system element, a hardware error is found in them after a computer system having the computer element is shipped to a customer location, and
- repairing said hardware error by replacing failing addresses with spare wordlines, during power-on reset, chosen from redundant array areas of said VLSI array.
- 2. A method of repairing a computer system element at a field location according to claim 1, including the steps of:
- buring the binary address of a known failing wordline into on-chip fuses corresponding to register locations in the redundant array areas.
- 3. A method of repairing a computer system element at a field location according to claim 1, including the step of:
- sparing for replacement a redundant failing wordline by blowing a fuse in an otherwise unused area of the array.
- 4. A method of repairing a computer system element at a field location according to claim 3, wherein said replacement of a failing wordline uses a shadow scan-able register for each bank of fuses of said otherwise unused redundant array which enables said register either to be loaded with the fuse values, or to override the fuse values of the wordline by a burn-in of fuse with its own values.
- 5. A method of repairing in the field a computer system element, comprising the steps of:
- employing an on-chip ABIST test to determine failing address values stored in VLSI redundant array fuses in said computer system element by running the ABIST with redundancy pointing to any failing address values burned into mirror image ABIST fuses,
- selecting the fuse values and causing them to be loaded into fuse registers,
- providing to a coupled service process both the fuse failing address values and the ABIST failing address values obtained by scanning out the results of said ABIST test,
- causing said service processor to compare said fuse failing address values and said ABIST filing address values, and if said ABIST failing addresses are not already recorded in said fuses of said VLSI redundant array, then with said service processor adding the additional failing addresses from the ABIST to the failing addresses from the fuses and scan the resulting string back into the fuse registers, and then
- re-running the ABIST test with the redundancy pointing to the fuse registers instead of the fuses.
