Claims
- 1. An apparatus for use in electroplating a workpiece comprising:an electroplating chamber; a rotor assembly disposed for rotation with respect to the stator assembly, the rotor assembly including a workpiece holder adapted to support a workpiece during electroplating thereof; a current thief assembly connected for co-rotation with the rotor assembly, the current thief assembly including one or more conductive segments that are positioned to be proximate the workpiece during electroplating; a current control circuit connected for co-rotation with the rotor and current thief assembly, the current control circuit being connected to control thieving current flow through the one or more conductive segments of the current thief assembly, the current control circuit including an internal power source mounted therewith for providing power to operate the current control circuit.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said cathode current control assembly comprises a multi-segment current thief.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the current thief assembly comprises a printed circuit board substrate including one or more conductive segments formed on the surface of the printed circuit board substrate and disposed to substantially surround a peripheral region of the workpiece.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the one or more conductive segments are electrically isolated from one another to facilitate separate biasing of the conductive segments.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein saidcurrent thief includes a plurality of conductive segments, disposed to substantially surround a peripheral region of the workpiece and wherein the current control circuit includes, a plurality of resistive elements each associated with a respective one of the plurality of conductive segments; and a single constant current source coupled to the internal power source and each of the plurality of conductive segments via the plurality of resistive elements for controlling thieving current of each of the plurality of conductive segments.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein said cathode current control assembly further comprises an additional resistive element for further coupling the constant current source to the workpiece.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the value of the current supplied to each of the conductive segments and the workpiece is dependant upon the resistive values of the resistors.
- 8. An apparatus for use in electroplating a workpiece comprising:an electroplating chamber; a stator assembly; a rotor assembly disposed for rotation with respect to the stator assembly, the rotor assembly including a workpiece holder adapted to support a workpiece during electroplating thereof; a current thief assembly including a plurality of conductive segments disposed to substantially surround a peripheral region of the workpiece; a current control circuit including an internal power source mounted therewith for providing power to the current control circuit, a plurality of resistive elements each associated with a respected one of the plurality of conductive segments, and a single constant current source coupled to the internal power source and each of the conductive segments via the plurality of resistive elements for controlling thieving current of each of the plurality of conductive segments.
