Claims
- 1. An electrically conductive elastic member, comprising:
a probe spring having a plurality of layers, wherein said probe spring comprises a fixed portion attached to a substrate and a free portion, Initially attached to the said substrate, which, upon release, extends away from the said substrate as a result of inherent stress gradient in the plurality of layers; at least one probe tip protruding at the end of said free portion of said probe spring; at least a portion of the said free portion of said probe spring including said probe tip further comprising a patterned electrically conductive coating.
- 2. The electrically conductive elastic member of claim 1, wherein said patterned electrically conductive coating is comprised of a hard material.
- 3. The electrically conductive elastic member of claim 1, wherein said patterned electrically conductive coating is comprised of a wear resistant material.
- 4. The electrically conductive elastic member of claim 1, wherein said patterned electrically conductive coating is comprised of a relatively inert and noble material.
- 5. The electrically conductive elastic member of claim 1, wherein said patterned electrically conductive coating is comprised of a material that resists galling and oxidation.
- 6. The electrically conductive elastic member of claim 1, wherein said patterned electrically conductive coating is a protective coating.
- 7. The electrically conductive elastic member of claim 1, wherein said patterned electrically conductive coating is comprised of any of titanium nitride, rhodium, tungsten, and nickel.
- 8. The electrically conductive elastic member of claim 1, wherein patterned electrically conductive coating covers at least a top surface and a side wall of a said probe tip.
- 9. The electrically conductive elastic member of claim 1, wherein said electrically conductive coating is lithographically patterned.
- 10. The electrically conductive elastic member of claim 1, wherein said electrically conductive coating is patterned by masking and selective etching.
