Claims
- 1. A gas discharge laser with flow shaping electrode structure comprising:
A) a laser chamber containing a laser gas, B) a tangential fan with a fan blade for circulating said laser gas and defining a fan blade diameter, C) a set of two elongated spaced apart electrode structures defining a discharge region, and comprising a first electrode structure comprising an erosion pad and having a cross section shape chosen to provide in conjunction with other chamber structures a gradual increasing flow cross section between said discharge region and said fan blade, both upstream and downstream of said tangential fan.
- 2. A laser as in claim 1 wherein said first electrode structure is configured to function as an anode in said gas discharge laser and is electrically connected to an electrical ground.
- 3. A laser as in claim 2 wherein said first electrode structure also comprises a flow shaping structure supporting said erosion pad.
- 4. A laser as in claim 3 wherein said flow shaping structure is machined from copper alloy material.
- 5. A laser as in claim 3 wherein said erosion pad is comprised of a copper alloy.
- 6. A laser as in claim 5 wherein said copper alloy is aluminum bronze.
- 7. A laser as in claim 6 wherein said aluminum bronze is comprised of C63200 brass (82% Cu, 10% Al, 5% Ni and 3% Fe).
- 8. A laser as in claim 5 wherein said copper alloy erosion pad is annealed after machining.
- 9. A laser as in claim 5 wherein said erosion pad is a cast part.
- 10. A laser as in claim 10 wherein said first electrode comprises dielectric material positioned on two sides of said erosion pad.
- 11. A laser as in claim 1 wherein said first electrode structure further comprises cooling fins to permit the structure to function as a passive heat sink.
