Claims
- 1. A method for exposing both sides of a light sensitive sheet with one or more optical beams according to imaging data, the method comprising:direct imaging by scanning each side of the sheet with one or more moving light beams, each moving light beam generating a scan line on a surface of the sheet in a scan line direction, each light beam modulated by the imaging data; generating relative motion between the sheet and any point on any scan line on the sheet in a direction transverse to the scan line direction, detecting the position of at least one moving light beam to using one or more optical detection modules having an output, wherein during the scanning, the scan lines on one side are accurately positioned in the transverse direction relative to the scan lines of the other side of the sheet using the detected position.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the scanning of both sides is carried out simultaneously.
- 3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the actuation of the beams of the two sides occurs in an interlaced manner.
- 4. The method according to claim 2, wherein said scanning of both sides is carried out using a single source of a light beam.
- 5. The method according to claim 4, wherein the beam produced by said one source is deflected alternately to one side of the sheet and to the other side of the sheet.
- 6. The method according to claim 4, wherein the light beam produced by said one source is split into two beams for scanning the respective sides of the sheets.
- 7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the sheet is kept in an upright position during scanning such that the weight of the sheet helps keep the sheet flat.
- 8. The method according to claim 7, further comprising, fixing the sheet to a carrier in a vertical orientation prior to exposure.
- 9. The method according to claim 8, said sheet having an upper and a lower edge, wherein said fixing to the carrier fixed the sheet to the carrier at its upper edge such that the sheet hangs down during exposing.
- 10. The method according to claim 1, wherein the sheet is a PCB panel.
- 11. The method according to claim 2, wherein the scanning is carried out by moving a beam along each of both sides by means of respective optical scanning units substantially located opposite to each other, and wherein the accurate positioning of the scan lines of one side relative to the scan liens of the other side includes adjusting the position of each optical scanning unit relative to the other optical scanning unit.
- 12. The method according to claim 11, wherein accurate positioning further includes sensing a beam of at least one of said scanning units using at least one detection module belonging to the other of said optical scanning units.
- 13. A method for exposing both sides of a PCB panel according to imaging data, the method comprising:direct imaging by simultaneously generating scan lines on both side of the sheet, the scan lines modulated by the imaging data; holding the sheet in an upright position during scanning such that the weight of the sheet helps keep the sheet flat, detecting the position in a direction transverse to the scan lines of one or more scan lines on one side of the sheet relative to the position at least one scan line on the other side of the sheet; accurately positioning the scan lines on one side of the sheet relative to the scan lines on the other side of the sheet during the scan line generating using the detected position.
