Claims
- 1. A method of inducing cellular apoptosis comprising administering to a cell an effective amount of an antisense compound 8 to 30 nucleotides in length targeted to a nucleic acid molecule encoding human Cellular Inhibitor of Apoptosis-1, so that expression of Cellular Inhibitor of Apoptosis-1 is inhibited and apoptosis is induced.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the cell is a cancer cell.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the antisense compound is an antisense oligonucleotide.
- 4. The method of claim 3 wherein the antisense oligonucleotide comprises at least one modification of the internucleoside linkage, sugar moiety or nucleobase.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein the modification is a phosphorothioate internucleoside linkage, a 2′-O-methoxyethyl sugar moiety or a 5-methylcytosine nucleobase.
- 6. The method of claim 3 wherein the antisense oligonucleotide is a chimeric oligonucleotide.
