Claims
- 1. In a workpiece processing system comprising multiple vacuum chambers coupled to a central chamber, a workpiece loading interface comprising:
- dual workpiece load/unload chambers coupled to the central chamber, each having an opening for receiving workpieces held in a cassette and for forwarding the cassette of workpieces to the central chamber of the workpiece processing chamber for further transfer to one of the multiple vacuum chambers for processing;
- cassette support mounted within each of said load/unload chambers for dual movements between raised and lowered positions and first and second pivot positions, each cassette support for raising and lowering a cassette of workpieces into and out of the opening of the respective load/unload chamber from the first pivot position of the cassette support, and for positioning the cassette for forwarding of the workpieces to the central chamber from the second pivot position of the cassette support; and
- a vacuum system coupled to said load/unload chambers for independently producing a vacuum in each of said load/unload chambers.
- 2. A workpiece processing system as in claim 1 wherein each of the dual external chambers include:
- a door which, when shut, covers and seals the opening; and
- opening means for opening said door by first moving the door parallel to the chamber to expose said opening.
- 3. A workpiece processing system as in claim 1 wherein said cassette is transferred into and out of said external chambers on a support having an open bottom.
- 4. In a workpiece processing system comprising a vacuum chamber, a workpiece loading interface comprising:
- a workpiece load chamber coupled to the vacuum chamber and having an opening for receiving a workpiece and for forwarding the workpiece to the vacuum chamber;
- a workpiece support pivotally mounted within the workpiece load chamber between first and second pivot positions to receive the workpiece through the opening and forward the workpiece to the vacuum chamber, movement between the first and second pivot positions being achieved by pivoting the workpiece about a first axis;
- the workpiece support being in the first pivot position when receiving the workpiece through the opening, the first pivot position aligning the workpiece support with the opening of the workpiece load chamber, the workpiece support being in the second pivot position when the workpiece is forwarded to the vacuum chamber, the second pivot position aligning the workpiece support with an opening of the vacuum chamber;
- the workpiece support, while in the first pivot position, pivoting about a second axis between a horizontal disposition for receiving the workpiece and a vertical disposition for forwarding the workpiece.
- 5. In a workpiece processing system comprising a vacuum chamber, a workpiece loading interface comprising:
- a workpiece load chamber coupled to the vacuum chamber and having an opening for receiving a workpiece and for forwarding the workpiece to the vacuum chamber;
- a workpiece support mounted within the workpiece load chamber for dual movement between lowered horizontal and raised vertical positions, and first and second pivot positions, movement between the first and second pivot positions being achieved by pivoting the workpiece support;
- the workpiece support being in the lowered horizontal position to receive the workpiece and being operational to transition to the raised vertical position to move the workpiece through the opening and place the workpiece within the vacuum chamber and the workpiece support being in the first pivot position when moving the workpiece through the opening, the first pivot position aligning the workpiece support with the opening of the workpiece load chamber and being in the second pivot position when the workpiece is forwarded to the vacuum chamber, the second pivot position aligning the workpiece support with an opening of the vacuum chamber.
