Claims
- 1. A system for processing a workpiece comprising:
a head lifter; a head attached to the head lifter; a first rotor in the head having at least one workpiece support; a base having a bowl for containing a liquid, and with the head movable by the head lifter from a first position vertically above the bowl, to a second position where the at least one workpiece support is at least partially positioned in the bowl; the bowl having contour section with a sidewall having an increasing radius of curvature; and an outlet in the sidewall adjacent to the contour section.
- 2. The machine of claim 1 further comprising
a second rotor around the first rotor on the head, with the second rotor having an open central area, and with the first rotor engageable with the second rotor to hold a workpiece between them; and the second rotor moveable from a first position where it is adjacent to the first rotor, to a second position where the second rotor is spaced apart from the first rotor.
- 3. The machine of claim 1 with the second rotor and first rotor each having a chamber access opening, and with the access openings offset from each other, when the second rotor is in the first position, and with the access openings at least partially aligned with each other when the second rotor is in the second position.
- 4. The machine of claim 1 further comprising at least one actuator in the head for moving the second rotor from the first position to the second position.
- 5. The machine of claim 1 further comprising a support arm attached to the head and to a head lifter, for lifting and lowering the head.
- 6. The machine of claim 1 further comprising an inlet in at least one of the first and second rotors.
- 7. The machine of claim 1 further comprising a spin motor in the head attached to at least one of the first rotor and second rotor.
- 8. The system of claim 1 further comprising a drain manifold connecting with the drain opening, and including a first drain port and a second drain port, and at least one valve for directing liquid flowing into the drain manifold into the first drain port or into the second drain port.
- 9. The system of claim 1 further comprising drain means for selectively directing liquid flowing out of the drain opening into one of at least two drain ports.
- 10. The system of claim 8 further comprising at least one gas opening positioned to introduce compressed gas into the drain manifold, to purge liquid from the drain manifold.
- 11. The system of claim 1 wherein the drain opening includes a bore section in the bowl sidewall connecting to a flare section below the bore section.
- 12. The system of claim 1 wherein the largest radius of the contour section is from 5-20% larger than the smallest radius of curvature of the contour section.
- 13. The system of claim 1 wherein the bowl sidewall has a constant radius of curvature except at the contour section and drain opening.
- 14. The system of claim 1 further comprising a drain opening radius on the bowl sidewall between the contour section and the drain opening.
- 15. A machine for processing a workpiece, comprising:
a head lifter; a head support on the head lifter; a process head attached to the head support; a base vertically aligned under the process head; a liquid bowl in the base for holding a bath of liquid, with the bowl having a sidewall having an increasing radius adjacent to an outlet in the sidewall; a first rotor on the process head and having a first rotor access opening; a second rotor on the process head and having a second rotor access opening moveable to engage and spin with the first rotor and moveable at least partially aligned with the first access opening with the second rotor access opening.
- 16. A machine for processing a workpiece, comprising:
a head lifter; a head support on the head lifter; a process head attached to the head support; a base vertically aligned under the process head; a liquid bowl in the base for holding a bath of liquid; a drain manifold connecting to a drain outlet in the bowl; a first valve and a second valve in the drain manifold, with the first and second valves positionable to direct flow of liquid from the drain manifold to either a first drain port or to a second drain port; a first rotor on the process head and having a first rotor access opening; a second rotor on the process head and having a second rotor access opening moveable to engage and spin with the first rotor and moveable at least partially aligned with the first access opening with the second rotor access opening.
- 17. A method for processing a workpiece comprising the steps of:
supporting the workpiece between a first element sealed against a second element; applying a fluid onto the workpiece; spinning the workpiece; separating the first element from the second element by a first distance to form an annular gap; removing the fluid out through the annular gap via centrifugal force; stopping the spinning of the workpiece; and further separating the first element from the second element by moving the first element to a second distance from the first element, with the second distance being greater than the first distance.
- 18. A machine for processing a workpiece, comprising:
a base having a curved bowl sidewall, a liquid outlet in the sidewall, and with the sidewall having a contour section adjacent to the liquid outlet, and with the radius of curvature of the sidewall increasing adjacent to the liquid outlet; and a process head moveable into engagement with the base.
