- a washer having a portion thereof abutting a portion of said first plate;
- a threader retainer apparatus having a first portion abutting a portion of said washer and having a second portion extending through an aperture of said plurality of apertures in said first plate, said second portion engaging a portion of said at least one aperture in said second plate; and
- a collar having at least a portion thereof located in said at least one aperture in said second plate; and
- biasing apparatus biasing said first plate and said second plate to substantially said predetermined maximum spaced-apart position, said biasing apparatus including:
- a plurality of stacked conical spring members compressingly held against said second plate, each stacked conical spring member of said plurality of stacked conical spring members having a central aperture therein; and
- a plurality of adjustable members, each adjustable member of said plurality of adjustable members having a first portion engaging a portion of an aperture of said plurality of apertures in said first plate and having a shaft extending through the aperture of at least one stacked conical spring member of said plurality of stacked conical spring members, said plurality of adjustable members movable within said plurality of apertures in said first plate causing at least one stacked conical spring member of said plurality of stacked conical spring members to selectively engage said second plate.
- 2. The biased floating plate apparatus of claim 1, wherein two opposed edges of said second plate are joined to vertical members, said vertical members configured for placement of downward force thereon to compress said upper and lower mold plates together.
- 3. The biased floating plate apparatus of claim 2, wherein said compressive downward force for a given substrate thickness is adjustable by varying the number of said stacked conical spring members of said plurality of stacked conical spring members.
- 4. The biased floating plate apparatus of claim 1, wherein said first plate is configured to abut one of the upper and lower mold plates of said molding machine to variably compensate for variations in substrate thickness of devices encapsulated in said molding machine.
- 5. The biased floating plate apparatus of claim 1, wherein said first plate is one of the upper and lower mold plates of said molding machine.
- 6. The biased floating plate apparatus of claim 1, further comprising gas collecting and venting apparatus in said lower mold plate.
- 7. A molding machine for plastic-encapsulating an electronic device mounted on a first side of a planar substrate, comprising:
- mating upper and lower mold plates having cavities therein for enclosing said electronic device and a portion of said planar substrate;
- clamping apparatus on said upper and lower mold plates clamping said planar substrate therebetween about said electronic device;
- force exerting apparatus compressing said upper and lower mold plates to clamp said planar substrate therebetween;
- spring-loaded biased floating plate apparatus providing adjustable compensation for substrates of varying thicknesses said spring-loaded biased floating plate apparatus comprising:
- a first plate having a plurality of apertures therein;
- a second plate having at least one aperture therein;
- attaching apparatus for attaching said first plate to said second plate moving between an abutment position and a maximum predetermined position said attaching apparatus allowing adjustment of the maximum predetermined position of said second plate, a portion of said attaching apparatus extending into a portion of said at least one aperture in said second plate and engaging said second plate, said attaching apparatus including:
- a washer having a portion thereof abutting a portion of said first plate;
- retainer apparatus having a first portion abutting a portion of said washer and having a second portion extending through an aperture of said plurality of apertures in said first plate, said second portion engaging a portion of said at least one aperture in said second plate; and
- a spacing collar located in said at least one aperture in said second plate: and
- conduit apparatus allowing injecting fluid plastic into said cavities; and
- said conduit apparatus allowing venting gases displaced by said fluid plastic.
- 8. The molding machine of claim 7, further comprising raised relief and vent apparatus in said lower mold plate for underlying said planar substrate and collecting and venting gases emitted by said planar substrate.
- 9. The molding machine of claim 7, wherein said spring-loaded biased floating plate apparatus further comprises spring members in compression in a maximum predetermined spaced-apart position.
- 10. The molding machine of claim 7, further comprising raised relief and vent apparatus in said lower mold plate for underlying said planar substrate and collecting and venting gases emitted by said planar substrate.
