Claims
- 1. A call-in center, comprising:a plurality of agent stations, individual ones of the agent stations having a telephone and a computer platform, the telephone and computer platform connected by a data link; a local area network (LAN) connecting at least some of the computer platforms at the agent stations; and a first processor connected on the LAN, receiving and distributing Internet Protocol Network Telephony (IPNT) calls on the LAN to the computer platforms at the agent stations; wherein the computer platforms and telephones share voice data over the data link, and the computer platforms cause to be recorded at the computer platforms at least portions of the voice data of calls at the telephones and IPNT calls at the computer platforms, the calls at the telephones being recorded over the data link.
- 2. The call-in center of claim 1 wherein the computer platforms transmit an audio version of both telephone calls at the telephones and IPNT calls at the computer platforms to be recorded in a database connected to the LAN.
- 3. The call-in center of claim 1 wherein an input interface is presented at the computer platforms, for an agent to control recording of portions of both telephone calls and IPNT calls.
- 4. The call-in center of claim 1 wherein the computer platforms cause pre-recorded audio data to be played to a caller at either the telephones or on IPNT calls at the computer platforms.
- 5. The call-in center of claim 4 wherein the pre-recorded audio data played to a caller is under agent control.
- 6. The call-in center of claim 1 wherein the computer platforms are enhanced by a voice-recognition system responding to voice data retrieved from the telephones connected to the computer platforms by the data link or associated with IPNT calls at the computer platforms.
- 7. The call-in center of claim 6 wherein the computer platforms respond to voice commands spoken by an agent at the connected telephone or through a microphone connected to the computer platform.
- 8. The telephony call-in center of claim 6 wherein the computer platforms respond to specific words and phrases uttered by a caller in a call at the connected telephone or associated with an IPNT call with pre-recorded audio phrases.
- 9. An agent station for a call-in center, comprising:a multi-media computer platform having a video display unit (VDU); a telephone having a telephone line port and a data link port; and a data link connecting the telephone and the computer platform through the data link port; wherein the computer platform and telephone are adapted to share voice data over the data link, and the computer platform causes recording of at least portions of the voice data of both telephone calls at the telephone and IPNT calls at the computer platform.
- 10. The agent station of claim 9 wherein a graphic input interface is presented at the computer platform for an agent to control recording of portions of telephone calls on a telephone connected to the computer platform and IPNT calls processed at the computer platform.
- 11. The agent station of claim 9 wherein the computer platform causes pre-recorded audio data to be played to a caller at the telephone and to a caller associated with an IPNT call.
- 12. The agent station of claim 11 wherein the prerecorded audio data played to a caller is under agent control.
- 13. The agent station of claim 9 wherein the computer platform is enhanced by a voice-recognition system responding to voice data retrieved from the telephone or from an IPNT call.
- 14. The agent station of claim 13 wherein the computer platform responds to voice commands spoken by an agent at the connected telephone or via a microphone connected to the computer platform.
- 15. The agent station of claim 13 wherein the computer platform responds to specific words and phrases uttered by a caller in a call at the connected telephone or by a caller associated with an IPNT call with pre-recorded audio phrases.
- 16. A method for providing voice extensions at a multi-media call center, wherein agent stations have multi-media computer platforms adapted to process Internet Protocol Network Telephony (IPNT) telephone calls, comprising steps of:(a) connecting individual telephones at the call-in center by a data link to the individual computer platforms; (b) sharing digital audio data between the connected telephones and the computer platforms; (c) initiating recording by the computer platform of at least portions of the voice data of both telephone calls at the telephone and IPNT calls at the computer platform.
- 17. The method of claim 16 wherein the voice extensions include one or more of call recording, playback of pre-recorded voice files to a caller during a call, and voice-activated functions at the computer platform.
