Claims
- 1. A transport arrangement for at least one workpiece to be conveyed in vacuum environment, comprising a transport rotor drivingly rotatable around an axis; and
- at least one workpiece gripping arrangement rigidly mounted to said transport rotor and comprising a magnet arrangement cooperating with a member separate from said transport rotor and comprised of magnetic material;
- wherein said member and said magnet arrangement are controllably mutually attracted so as selectively to hold and release a workpiece therebetween.
- 2. The transport arrangement according to claim 1, further comprising a controllable magnet arrangement arranged along a trajectory path of said magnetic material portion of said rotor at at least one specified location so that said member is controllably removable from or appliable onto said portion of said rotor.
- 3. The transport arrangement according to claim 2, wherein said controllable magnet arrangement comprises at least one electro-magnet.
- 4. The transport arrangement according to claim 2, wherein said controllable magnet arrangement is mounted on a second transport arrangement.
- 5. The transport arrangement according to claim 4, wherein said second transport arrangement comprises a second transport rotor drivingly rotatable around an axis.
- 6. A transport chamber comprising at least two openings for passing or treating a workpiece therethrough and a transport arrangement for at least one workpiece to be conveyed from one of said openings to the other, said transport arrangement comprising a transport rotor drivingly rotatable around an axis within said chamber; and
- at least one workpiece gripping arrangement rigidly mounted to said transport rotor and comprising a magnet arrangement cooperating with a member separate from said transport rotor and comprised of magnetic material;
- wherein said member and said magnet are controllably mutually attracted so as selectively to hold and release a workpiece therebetween.
- 7. The transport chamber according to claim 6, further comprising a controllable magnet arrangement arranged along the trajectory path of said magnetic material portion of said rotor at at least one specified location adjacent to at least one of said openings so that said member is controllably removable from or applicable onto said portion of said rotor.
- 8. The transport chamber according to claim 7, wherein said controllable magnet arrangement comprises at least one electro-magnet.
- 9. The transport chamber according to claim 8, wherein said controllable magnet arrangement is mounted on a second transport arrangement located outside said transport chamber.
- 10. The transport chamber according to claim 9, wherein said second transport arrangement comprises a second transport rotor drivingly rotatable around a second axis.
- 11. The transport chamber according to claim 6, wherein said transport rotor comprises a carrier member drivingly movable towards and away from said axis, said magnetic material portion of said transport rotor being mounted on said carrier member.
- 12. The transport chamber according to claim 11, wherein said carrier member operatively cooperates with at least one of said openings to form a seal which is formable and releasable by movement of said carrier member.
- 13. The transport chamber according to claim 12, further comprising a control magnet arrangement arranged on a second transport arrangement outside one of said at least two openings, and comprising a carrier member controllably movable towards and from said one opening and defining with said opening a formable and releasable seal, said carrier member of said transport rotor and said carrier member of said further transport arrangement forming load-lock valves of a load-lock chamber at said one opening.
- 14. The transport chamber according to claim 6, wherein at least one of said openings communicates with a surface treatment station for said workpiece, and wherein said member comprised partially of magnetic material is a masking member for said workpiece and for said treatment.
