Claims
- 1. An isolator circuit comprising:
- a first circuit adapted to be coupled to a first ground potential;
- a second circuit adapted to be coupled to a second ground potential; and
- one or more capacitors coupled between the first circuit and second circuit for providing capacitively-coupled isolation therebetween, the capacitors having electrodes formed from a lead frame structure.
- 2. The isolator circuit of claim 1 wherein each of the one or more lead frame capacitors comprise:
- first and second capacitor electrodes separated by a region therebetween, wherein said first and second electrodes comprise portions of lead frame material adapted to couple charge therebetween; and
- a dielectric molding material disposed in said region, said dielectric molding material providing dielectric insulation between said first and second electrodes.
- 3. The isolator circuit of claim 2 wherein the first and second electrodes are substantially coplanar.
- 4. The isolator circuit of claim 3 wherein the first and second electrodes are interdigitated.
- 5. The isolator circuit of claim 4 wherein the first electrode comprises a pair of first and second fingers and wherein said second electrode comprises a third finger spaced between said first and second fingers.
- 6. The isolator circuit of claim 5 wherein the first electrode and second electrode are formed from a single sheet of lead frame material.
- 7. The isolator circuit of claim 6 comprising a pair of lead frame capacitors and wherein the first circuit comprises a driver circuit and the second circuit comprises a receiver circuit.
- 8. The isolator circuit of claim 7 wherein the first circuit and second circuit are mounted on a lead frame in an integrated circuit package.
- 9. The isolator circuit of claim 8 wherein the driver circuit is a differential circuit and includes an oscillator for generating a signal having a first predetermined period and wherein the receiver circuit is a differential circuit.
- 10. The isolator circuit of claim 9 wherein the receiver circuit comprises a comparator.
- 11. The isolator circuit of claim 10 wherein the comparator is coupled to drive a one-shot circuit having an on time in excess of the first predetermined period so as to generate an output signal that is continuous.
- 12. The isolator circuit of claim 7 wherein the driver circuit includes a plurality of inputs for accepting parallel input signals, and wherein one or more of the plurality of inputs is used to provide operating power to the driver circuit.
- 13. The isolator circuit of claim 12 wherein the receiver circuit includes a plurality of outputs for providing parallel ouput signals.
- 14. The isolator circuit of claim 6 wherein each of the first and second circuits comprise transceiver circuits.
- 15. The isolator circuit of claim 14 comprising a pair of lead frame capacitors.
- 16. The isolator circuit of claim 15 wherein the first circuit includes a plurality of terminals for accepting parallel input signals, and wherein one or more of the plurality of terminals is used to provide operating power to said first circuit.
- 17. The isolator circuit of claim 16 wherein the second circuit includes a plurality of terminals for providing parallel ouput signals.
